We will be doing a monthly series spotlighting all of the instructors and providers at The Nest so that you can get to know all of our amazing instructors. This month we highlight Misty McBride. Misty uses the Nest for prenatal visits for the convenience of her Reno based midwifery clients.
Misty McBride, CPM of BlueWater Midwifery is a certified professional midwife, offers
a wide range of services to the Truckee Meadows and Carson Valley areas. Misty
sees clients and teaches herb and homeopathy classes at The Nurturing Nest. She
specializes in homebirth, including water birth, as well as birth classes and placenta encapsulation. Misty is a Master Herbalist and an aspiring homeopath, offering consultations regarding herbs and homeopathy, and creating specialized herbal remedies for her clients.
Misty became interested in birth and midwifery after her first pregnancy. Like so many mothers, she hired an obstetrician. As her pregnancy progressed, she found herself
distraught by the disconnect between her doctor, herself and the baby inside of her. He seemed more interested in just discussing any problems. She disliked how cold and sterile the appointments felt. She feels that, spiritually speaking, pregnancy and birth are
things that happen within you, not to you.
After moving to Oregon, Misty met a beautiful and inspiring midwife who changed her
life. She learned all about the joys of midwifery and her journey began. Misty attended herb school, followed by midwifery school. She has been involved in the birth community since 2003, and officially opened her practice as a CPM in 2011. She has attended over 160 births.
Misty truly believes that pregnancy and birth are natural steps not medical events in a woman’s life. If Misty had one word of wisdom to share, she would encourage all
women to be empowered, know your options and advocate for yourself.
